The AHA has been working with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and other national and state hospital associations to help coordinate medical relief efforts for hospitals and patients affected by Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Texas. More than 800 hospitals volunteered teams and other resources via this Web site, information that has been forwarded to HHS, which is developing plans for their location and use. Please be patient if your facility does not immediately get contacted to assist. The relief process will be a long one and HHS is developing a pipeline of providers to help when and where needed. HHS has made initial contacts, and other contacts may take more time.
Individual health care professionals volunteered their services at volunteer.ccrf.hhs.gov, which is no longer accepting signups, after receiving more than 30,000 individual offers of help.
Stay tuned to this Web site for further information as the situation changes in response to Hurricane Rita.
Thank you for your generosity of spirit in helping those
along the Gulf Coast.
